Born in 1964, Italian citizen.

Full Professor of Pharmacology and Director of the Clinical Pharmacology Unit of the National Health System at the University of Milano, Italy, since 2005, he was previously Reader in Pharmacology at the University of Catanzaro, Italy (1992-1996), Research Fellow at the University College London (1996-1999) and Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Calabria, Italy (1999-2005). He earned his MD degree at the University of Milano (1988) and his PhD in Experimental Pharmacotherapy at the University of Brescia (Italy) (1994).
He has published more than 310 papers (H index 47, cited more than 9000 times) focused on the pathophysiology of nitric oxide and its relevance in therapeutic perspective, which led him to investigate its role as a therapeutic in clinical studies on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. His interest in clinical pharmacology has grown significantly since 2005 leading him to studies in pharmacokinetics and pharmacogenetics with a specific interest in paediatric patients, also running a pharmacovigilance programme on them sponsored by the Italian Medicines Agency.

He has been member of the executive committee of the Italian Society of Pharmacology (2009-2013), member of the executive committee of the clinical section of the Italian Society of Pharmacology (2’13-2017). Presently is member of the executive committee of the European Association of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (EACPT).

He is involved in editorial activity, presently the Editor in Chief of Pharmacological Research a broad scope pharmacological journal published by Elsevier. He has been previously Associate Editor of Pharmacological Research, (2007-2014), Frontiers in Pharmacology (2010-2014) and the Nitric Oxide Journal (2008-2014).
