Janne Backman
The NetherlandsJanne T. Backman, MD, PhD is Professor in Clinical Pharmacology and Individual Medicine at Department of Clinical Pharmacology, University of Helsinki and Helsinki University Hospital, Finland. He is the current president elect of the European Association for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (EACPT) and the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of 17th EACPT Congress to be held in Helsinki in 2025.
In 2019, he was nominated as a member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters for his merits in his scientific discipline. Dr. Backman’s research interests have focused on drug–drug interactions and other sources of individual variability in pharmacokinetics. He has published about 200 original articles in international peer-reviewed journals, and his H-index is 69 (Scopus, April 1, 2024).

AustriaThomas Griesbacher studied Medicine at the University of Graz from 1979 till 1985 when he finished his M.D. After service at the Military Hospital in Vienna he worked in the Institute for Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology of the Medical Faculty of the University of Graz. From 1987 till 1988 he was visiting scientist at the Parke-Davis Neuroscience Research Unit, Cambridge, UK.
After his return he continued to work at the Department of Pharmacology and in 1994 was acknowledged as Medical Specialist in Pharmacology and Toxicology by the Austrian Medical Association. In 1995 he became Lecturer in Pharmacology and in 1997 Associate Professor. In 2000 he spent one semester as locum tenens professor of Molecular Pharmacology at the Medical Faculty of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany.
Since 2010 he is head of the Teaching Unit at the Chair of Pharmacology and co-chair of the Institutional Review Board of the Medical University of Graz. Since 2014 he is co-chair of the Medicines Evaluation Commission of the Austrian Health Service.
