At the 14th EACPT congress, held in Stockholm from June 29th-July 2nd, the organization celebrated its 25th anniversary, attracting 500 participants from all 5 continents – from Australia to China, Japan and South Korea to the USA. 304 abstracts were presented as 66 short oral communications and 230 poster presentations by delegates from the European Region and around the world.
The Congress started with a reception at the Stockholm City Hall by generous invitation from the City of Stockholm and Region Stockholm. The congress program included 2 plenary sessions, one plenary debate, 21 parallel sessions with Keynote Lectures, 6 workshops and 4 satellite symposia. After an introductory welcome speech by professor Ylva Böttiger, the president of the Karolinska Institutet, professor Ole Petter Ottersen gave an inspiring plenary lecture titled “Global health research and education in Europe – how can clinical pharmacology contribute?” The following program provided an international scientific and educational forum for discussion of clinical pharmacology and therapeutics with a broad health care perspective. The theme of the congress was Clinical pharmacology meeting tomorrow´s health care challenges”. Clinical pharmacologists have all the tools; from a molecular perspective on drug-target interaction, over individual patient and patient group needs, to epidemiological and global considerations for the safe and effective use of medicines. In this meeting, we all came together and discuss how we can use these tools to solve the many challenges of modern health care, for the sake of our patients, today and tomorrow!
The EACPT was founded 25 years ago and now includes as members nearly all national organizations for clinical pharmacology in Europe, as well as organizations from further afield internationally. The EACPT aims to provide educational and scientific support for the more than 4000 individual professionals interested in clinical pharmacology and therapeutics throughout the European region, with its congresses attended by a global audience. The EACPT also advises policy makers on how the specialty can contribute to human health and wealth.
